Maxxis 29er Ardents Mounted

I finally got a chance to get the new 29er Ardents from Maxxis mounted the night before I am supposed to be riding the north Georgia mountains. First, these tires go on Stans Flow rims extremely easy. There was no need for tire levers at all.

Tour of the Industry Nine Plant

Walking into the front door, you come straight into the final assembly and order staging area of the plant. You can see by the pictures below they stock your spokes and hubs in white boxes and the rims go on the other wall. Finished prototypes are hung on one side of the room and the finished boxed wheelsets are stacked all over the place.

Stealth Black Turner Sultan Revisited

At that time, he was riding a 32 lbs. red RFX that seemed to be fitting the bill for the new Asheville, NC local. Due to an attempt at flying incident on Green's Lick at Bent Creek, MP dented the RFX and had to build up the newly painted Sultan in a hurry to be ready for our HIP rides over the past weekend.

Wolfhound Cycles

Fred Cuthbert of Wolfhound Cycles builds what is considered a true work of art. His fillet brazed, custom steel creations not only look like nothing else on the trail, but they are the best riding steel frames that I have ever had the pleasure of testing. Hambone's orange Wolfhound 29er rigid is featured on this site.

2009 Rock Shox Reba U-Turn - 29er and 26er

The hits just keep on coming from Rock Shox/SRAM and it is starting to look like a huge year for the RS line. It also appears that SRAM is paying very close attention to what their end users are asking for. These new Reba's will also be using the new 46mm offset. This Reba line answers all of the requests that 29er and 26er riders have been asking for all year long. Very exciting news...

Moots Mooto-X 29er - Long Term Review

Some might argue that a bicycle is simply a tool, a way to get from point A to point B. They're not wrong, but that utilitarian view misses perhaps the most crucial point: A bicycle, especially one built with passion for passionate riders, is not just a tool. It's a way out. Out of where? One ride, and you'll know.

A Much Needed Day on the Trail

Yesterday, I got in a much needed day at the trail. My Saturday was filled up with a memorial service and a company party, both of which, I was not looking forward to. I woke up on Sunday morning with the sun and low 70 degree temperatures starring at me in the face. It was going to be a great day.

Stoic Cycles

I have a true soft spot in my heart for custom steel frame builders. The amount of care and craftsmanship that goes into every single one of their frames is unlike any other build in the industry. These guys have a true love for the sport, and most of the time...they make next to nothing on their works of art.

2008 Sea Otter Classic - Part 2

Less initial power and deep stroke modulation allow the rider to better manage and use the increased overall power. The power gain comes from Elixir’s larger caliper pistons making the power sit halfway between Juicy and Code. Elixir benefits include reduced weight and clearance through reservoir design and optimized caliper.
