Blankets Creek is probably the most ridden trail in Georgia. It's wide range of single track and close proximity to Atlanta make it a hotspot for social rides in the area. Blankets Creek includes over 12 miles of mountain bike specific trails nestled just north of Woodstock off of exit 11 on 575 (Sixes Rd.). To make things even better for an urban trail, there are great views of Lake Allatoona spread all throughout the ride.
Mosquito Flats and Mosquito Bite trails are perfect sections to use as warm-ups, or bring the kids. The terrain is non-technical and flat so that beginners can learn how to ride a bike off-road.
Note: The very first section of Mosquito Flats (take the first left) is the only part shown on the GPS mapping. The trail crosses back and forth over the main vein that runs to the main trail head.
Dwelling Loop is located at the main trail head at the end of the gravel double track. You can get here by the direct route from the parking lot, or warm up on the Mosquito trails. Watch the signs for the directional riding specified by the day of the week. Dwelling is a fast and slowly intermediate trail.
South Loop is the most technical trail at Blankets. Entirely hand cut, South Loop took over a year to build and is the narrowest and rockiest terrain in the area. Label as their advanced loop, it is a great place to dial in your slow climbing skills. All most all of the rocks and tight switchbacks were kept in place to make this trail much different than the groomed trails it is grouped with.
The Van Michael Loop is still currently under construction, but will be opening sometime in the near future. Labeled as "North Loop" or "Area 51" during most of it's construction, it was renamed the "Van Michael Loop" after a very generous donation by some local business owners that are also mountain biking enthusiasts. The VM Loop will contain the largest elevation change out of any of the Blankets Trails and it will be labeled as advanced. Entirely professionally machine cut, the trail will have technical features added back into it.
Note: VM Loop is not shown on current GPS mapping. GPS map will be updated when the loop is officially opened.
